Railways around the world are based on Relay Technology which was first developed in 1809 and connected via SDN and PDH Transmission Technology which was first developed in the 1980's. With the push to digitise the railway, companies are developing new IP signalling systems to improve and enhance the connectivity of railway signalling systems.
In this talk, Peter Harbottle MEng (Hons) CEng MIET, Senior Engineer within Atkins (an SNC Lavalin Company) Signalling and Communications Systems Practice, will present outline his route into the Rail Industry, how Atkins is contributing to the digitisation of the Railway and outline some of his work developing and implementing new IP signalling systems, helping upgrade and improve the UK Railway Network.
