“Your network is your net-worth” is often said in motivation talks all over the internet.
Growing your professional network, it is undoubtedly the best way to prepare your path towards a successful career. Meeting other professionals can always help you to develop your soft skills and built self-confidence when speaking in public. Meeting a colleague who was a stranger to you few minutes ago it always a good opportunity to share your work experiences.
Come and join us for an evening talk from 3 Engineers who met at a European conference. Listen to their unique stories and how they have developed their soft skills through the involvement with professional institutions.
Mohanad, Ebunife and Petros will explain the importance of developing our own personal brand in both professional and personal life.
“Hi! My name is Mohanad, and I am currently a Senior Systems Consultant at WSP in Birmingham and the National Vice-Chair for Young Rail Professionals (YRP). Since I began my career approx. 5 years ago I have worked mainly in the transport industry which included Rail and now Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). In Addition to this, I have held numerous roles that focused on the development of young professionals ranging from STEM coordinator to now Next Generation Lead at WSP. My role as Next Gen Lead provides me with the opportunity to seek the next generation engineer’s specific attributes and characteristics which then feeds into the business’s leadership team.
I have been involved with the YRP coming up to 5 years now, holding multiple positions from committee member to West Midland External Relations Manager to West Midland Chair and currently to my current role. Being in a volunteer only organisation I am often asked why I do what I do, my response is that YRP gives me and all those who are keen to develop and grow the opportunity to do so, the only limitation is our imagination and our drive, YRP does the rest.”
“Hi I’m Ebunife! I am a Civil Engineer at AECOM in Birmingham and the Regional Chairperson of the ACE Emerging Professionals in the Midlands. Over the last two years, I have been involved in the design and assessment of various highway and rail structures across the UK. Additionally, I hold a supporting role within AECOM’s Client Account Management team.
I joined the ACE Emerging Professionals (formerly known as ACE Progress Network) in April 2018 and have actively participated in organising events and running the committee. I am passionate about international development and volunteer with Engineers for Overseas Development (EFOD) on the design and construction of a maize mill and storage facility in Matugga, Uganda.”
“Hi! I work as a Highways Engineer in WSP in Birmingham and I am the Vice President for Member Management Department of EYE. I am also the ambassador for the Global Initiative of WSP - Future Ready. I have been actively involved in the regional groups of ACE Emerging Professionals and ICE Graduates and Students for approx. 4 years, where I have organised numerous of knowledge sharing events for the Region.
I have joined EYE in 2017 and since then I have contributed in conference planning, council meetings and delivering soft-skills workshop. Being part of an organisation with European outreach is a very important part of my professional career.”
