Young Rail Professionals (YRP) were principle supporters of this year’s Fast Trackers, an outreach programme designed to inspire 16-19 year old students from areas with low uptake of further education to pursue a career in engineering.
This year over 300 young people from across England and Scotland took part in a three-day regional event comprising of a higher education visit, an employer visit and an engineering challenge.
Participants received an Industrial Cadets Silver Award, where 70 of the highest performing students progressed to the national final, a three-day residential in Birmingham across 2nd to 4th July. Finalists earned an Industrial Cadets Gold Award and were also potentially rewarded with year in industry or work placements.
At the national final, YRP volunteers, Paul Burkitt-Gray and Akeem Karefa Smart delivered a workshop on the theme of managing cost and risk, which was well received by all those that participated.
