In collaboration with the Permanent Way Institution (PWI), YRP West Midlands invites you to an exciting event exploring one of the most transformative innovations in modern transport — High-Speed Rail.

As the railway industry celebrates 200 years since the first train rolled between Stockton and Darlington, we’ll look at how rail travel has accelerated — from 15 mph in 1825 to over 200 mph today.

Join Hudson Taivo, Engineering Manager at Systra, on Thursday 27 November 2025, as he takes us on a journey through the origins of high-speed rail in Japan, its European expansion, and its rapid growth across Asia, Africa, and beyond.

Hudson will also share insights from the World Congress on High-Speed Rail, touching on:
⚙️ Technological innovation
🌱 Sustainability and decarbonisation
🚀 The opportunities and challenges shaping high-speed rail today

📍 Venue: Arup, Ground Floor, One Centenary Way, Birmingham B3 3AY
🕔 In-person from 17:00 (with refreshments) | Talk begins 17:30
💻 Hybrid option available via Microsoft Teams (Link available here: From Shinkansen to Casablanca – High Speed Rail Around the World - The PWI)
