
BeEnspired - Railway Approvals, Safety and Certification
Next in our series of BeEnspired events, in collaboration with Enspired consulting, is a lunch time session on Railway approvals, safety and certification. This joint presentation by experienced engineers from Martin Elliot (Chevin Rail) Andrew Allen (TUV Risktec) and Thillai Chandrasekaran (TUV Risktec) will introduce attendees to the requirements that are in place relating to compliance with both standards and safety related legislation across the railway industry. Lunch will be provided. This joint presentation will introduce attendees to the requirements that are in place relating to compliance with both standards and safety related legislation across the railway industry. Thillai Chandrasekaran will outline the processes required to meet the Common Safety Method for Risk Evaluation and Assessment (CSM-REA), supported by Andrew Allen for technical Q&As. Martin Elliot will then identify the wide range of applicable standards and explain their hierarchy. He will also outline the role of the Certification Bodies and explain when and how to engage with them to ensure that your introduction of any change is as straightforward as it can be! Lunch will be provided. Martin is a Chartered Mechanical Engineer with over 35 years’ experience in the railway industry. Prior to setting up his own Consultancy in 2024 he spent nearly 15 years working in the area of railway approvals and certification across a wide range of railway vehicle and infrastructure projects. Thillai is a Senior Engineer at TUV Risktec with over 4 years’ experience in the railway industry. She specialises in CSM-RA rail compliance studies and has undertaken safety assurance activities for a variety of infrastructure projects (telecommunications, electrification related) and rolling stock projects. Andrew is a chartered mechanical engineer at TUV Risktec with over 19 years’ experience as a rail professional, with a focus on engineering safety and assurance. Most recently has been working as an assurance engineer and engineering safety manager for SRSA at Old Oak Common. Andrew is an effective communicator at all levels, able to present complex data in simple terms.
