Make your visualisation by 31st August and email it back to us. Judgement Criteria • Overall Impact of the Display (The design of your display) • The technical aspects (The statistical correctness of data) • Clarity of the message. • Context of the viz (How close you are to our main theme) FAQ What am I supposed to do? Data is all around us. In times of big data, we surrounded by rows and rows of spreadsheet of numbers, which sometimes don’t make sense. Data visualisations makes it easier for the human brain to understand by taking information (data) and placing it into a visual context, such as a map or graph. Preferably with lots of colours! We will provide datasets (an excel file) with different raw sources you can use. You must figure out a creative way to represent it in a manner everyone can easily understand. What software do I need? Ideally you only need Microsoft Excel to run our files and make charts. However, we are not going to be holding you back. You can use any opensource software out there like Tableau, JetPack Data etc. What should I visualise? We will provide you some sample datasets you will be able to use. However, you are only limited by your imagination (and whatever data you can find). You can use anything you can find or scrape from the internet as long as it adheres to our theme. Just make sure your source data is reliable. What kind of chart/graph/map should I use? Well that decision rests on you. Look over at the data and imagine the best way to represent it. Find the trends and patterns and see how you can present it. How should I submit my visualisation? You can create the viz on PowerPoint or word or pdf or any other software that you can think of. As long as it’s (relatively) easy to understand. Do I need to submit just my visualisation? No. You need to provide in a separate file an explanation of what data you used, the source of the data, what you hoped to accomplish with this data and an explanation of your process for us to understand. Do I win something? Yes. First place: £100 Second place: £75 Third place: £50
