The Awards

In order to recognise the achievements of talented and passionate professionals at varying stages of their careers, YRP presents eight awards in the following categories:

 

 

Young Rail Personality
of the Year

For an outstanding contribution to the rail industry during the last 12 months.

The nominee can be anyone who is in the first 10 years of their railway career.

    This award is for the individual using their platform to show the wider society all the railway has to offer. This individual has to have promoted, developed or inspired those within/outside of the rail industry in the framework of YRPs values. Attempting to represent the railway as a whole at a national level. The award is for an individual who is highly valued within the vast rail industry- someone who embodies this message with their own personal flair, enthusiasm in all that they do.

    This award will be decided on the night from our shortlisted nominees via an audience vote!

Award

For an outstanding contribution to the rail industry during the last 12 months.

The nominee can be anyone who exhibits the following criteria.

  • Commitment to the rail industry – showing passion and enthusiasm.
  • Leadership – acting as a role model and leading by example.
  • Teamwork – effectively managing relationships and stakeholders.
  • Inspiring others – commitment to engaging the next generation.
  • Achievement – making a difference and delivering results.

  • Our most distinguished accolade, the Distinguished Service Award, is bestowed upon an individual who has made a profound, positive, and lasting impact on the rail industry and the Young Rail Professionals community.

    This category acknowledges an individual who has reached the zenith of their career by making a substantial and remarkable contribution to the railway industry. This could be through a singular monumental effort or a consistent series of activities over an extended period.

In recognition of an employer who has demonstrated commitment to the next generation of railway professionals within their organisation and in the rail industry.

The nominee can be any company or organisation. Note: Judges will take into account the size of company. Please state the approximate number of employees within your application (e.g., less than 50,50-250, 250+).

  • Supporting (internal to company) – devised a range of organisational policies and practices to support early career’s progression.
  • Inspiring (external to company) – inspiring and securing the future talent of the UK railway industry. Examples may include campaigning at schools/colleges, encouraging alternative career paths (e.g., ex. Armed forces), supporting YRP & their events, and/or other campaigns to support the next generation of railway professionals.
  • Inclusive – Taken proactive steps to embed an inclusive culture, specifically towards early careers retention within their organisation and/or the rail industry. Demonstrating a willingness to listen and support young professionals, helping them to overcome their personal and professional challenges.
  • Knowledge sharing– sharing knowledge, understanding and experiences with other organisations, clients and/or suppliers.

The nominee can be anyone who has been a YRP volunteer during the last 12 months*(*Not including the Directors within Chair’s Office)

  • Commitment– showing passion and enthusiasm in supporting the future generation of rail professionals.
  • Leadership – showing proactivity, acts as a role model and leads by example.
  • Collaborative – effectively collaborating with others to build strong relationships.
  • Inclusive – Providing help, encouragement, motivation to others, creating an inclusive and fun environment.

Why nominate someone?

As part of our mission to promote, inspire and develop young individuals working within the rail sector, it is crucial to commend the contributions and achievements of the young professionals who are driving the industry forward. Through the Young Rail Professional Awards, YRP is looking to celebrate individuals who have demonstrated commitment to the railway industry, be it via their outstanding ability, inspiring others or simply doing something extraordinary.

Acknowledgement of the accomplishments of young people and inspirational mentors within in the rail industry is vital to support the continued drive for excellence within the rail industry.

Nomination Process

How to Enter

Nominations for the 2025 Awards will open on Friday 25th October 2024 and will close on Wednesday 18th December 2024

Nomination Rules

Nominees do not need to be YRP members.

A person can only be nominated for one award.

YRP committee members can not be nominated for any awards.*The exception is Young Rail Professionals' Volunteer of the Year

When submitting your reasons for nomination, please think about the award criteria outlined above and keep to a maximum of 400 words.

 

Winner Selection

  1. All nominations entered will be reviewed by a panel of YRP members from the executive and/or annual dinner committee, and a shortlist for each category selected.
  2. The shortlist will then be reviewed by a judging panel made up of leading rail representatives from YRP’s corporate platinum members and our award sponsor. The judging panel will select the finalists for each category .
  3. The winners for each category will be announced at the annual dinner & awards. We encourage all shortlisted and finalists to join us!

YRP will hold the final decision on those who are successfully selected as the shortlist, finalists and winners.
