With many new-build fleets of trains entering the rail industry, one of the main questions being asked is how do we ensure that the pre-existing fleets can compete with the new fleets and meet the increasing passenger expectations? A multimillion-pound modernisation project to upgrade the Electrostar (Class 377 and Class 387) based on new build standards is currently in progress.

This project is comprised of seven technical work packages, which will be delivered over the next five years across 1086 Porterbrook-owned vehicles. Porterbrook Project Engineer Kamil Hashmi, who has been working on the project since project conception, will be discussing the development of this, the seven technical workstreams and the current progress.
