The YRP Heritage Railway Engagement initiative are pleased to announce the return of our popular volunteering weekend to the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway in Snowdonia, North Wales! The weekend is a chance to get hands on volunteering on the railway with the infrastructure team, hopefully working on a track renewal. Cost The trip costs £12 which helps to cover the cost of the trip. Accommodation We will be staying in the railway’s hostel at Penrhyn Ffestiniog Station. Please note that this quite a historical building so is of a partially open plan dorm style arrangement with bunk beds. If you have any concerns about this, please contact Matthew the organiser to discuss how we can best accommodate you. Travel The YRP will arrange for taxis from Bangor station. On the Friday night the taxi will depart Bangor at 20:35 and is intended to connect from 1D91 18:56 departure Crewe (Avanti West Coast) which itself connects from 1F22 17:00 departure from London Euston (Avanti West Coast). On the Sunday we will be aiming for the taxi to Llandudno Junction to connect into 1V92 17:25 departure for Cardiff via Chester (TfW). A connection is available at Chester onto 1K16 19:01 to Crewe (Avanti West Coast) and subsequently onto 1A79 19:29 departure to London Euston arriving 21:10 (Avanti West Coast). Alternatively, you are welcome to make your own way to Penryn by road. Please note that the Cambrian Coast mainline railway is closed until December for works on the Barmouth Bridge.
