YRP London & South East are proud to present this event, in partnership with YRP Wales and YRP Western! In a continuation of our highly popular ‘How to Run a Railway’ series, we will be taking a look at all things train planning. Our panel of speakers come from various areas of the industry and various parts of the country, each will be sharing their experience and expertise before the floor is opened in a question and answer session.

Our guest speakers are:

  • Colin Lea (TfW Planning and Performance Director) – Strategic look at Railway Planning

    Covering various enablers, inputs and constraints that have to be juggled on a complex network like ours, in order to plan an effective train plan.

  • Joseph Savage (GTR Train Planner) – Events Planning and Late Notice Engineering

    Discussing life in the world of short term planning and what we get up to in regards to Covid reduction plans, events planning, landslips etc. and how this h            

  • as a wider impact. Joe is specialising in crew diagramming at the minute, so may give a brief overview to how that is impacted within short term planning.

  • John Adkins (Bellvedi Head of Business Development and Industry Expertise) – Bellvedi and Train Planning Software

    'Using technology to support the timetabling challenge'. This presentation will talk about how modern planning systems are crucial to tackling the many challenges that planners face. The events of 2018 and more recently have shown how important the right timetable is to ensure the industry can successfully deliver for its many users. Technology should be there to support the planner and make the process ever more efficient.

  • Wilson Hill (GWR Train Planner) – The effect of COVID on Train Planning

    Sharing his experience of a train planner during the Covid-19 pandemic, specifically from the January 2021 lockdown perspective. What challenges were faced and what was achieved despite that.
