200 years ago, Wales was one of the world’s pioneers of rail travel. James Bennett, Young Rail Professionals’ Wales branch chair, will take us through an informative and interesting look at the fascinating history of rail in Wales and the Borders.

The story will start with the growth of the rail industry in Wales since the early 1800s, including the first successful steam locomotive running in Merthyr Tydfil and the explosive growth of the network in the 19th century. It will also cover the decline of the railways after the Second World War and the exciting work that’s being undertaken today to reinvigorate the Wales and Borders rail network.

This presentation is an ideal introduction for anyone who is just starting out in the rail industry and wants to know more about its background.
