The YRP's ever popular volunteering trip to the Ffestiniog railway in Snowdonia is back... this time with an extended visit!
Wednesday 15th June We will meet at Birmingham New Street station to catch the 10:25 1J11 TfW service along the Cambrian line to Machynlleth, where we will change to head up to Tywyn. The Cambrian is definitely one of the most spectacular railways in Britain working its way through Welsh hills and clinging to cliffs along the coast. You will need to puchase your own tickets for this train. At Tywyn we will alight to visit the Talyfllyn Railway, who have generously offered us a unique tour of Pendre Works. They have then offered us a free return trip on the line where we can enjoy one of the railway's historic steam engines and the fantastic views. After visiting the Talyflyn we will continue along TfW's Cambrian line to Penrhyndeudraeth to check into the Ffestiniog Railway's hostel. Thursday 16th, Friday 17th, Saturday 19th June Staying in the hostel at Penrhyndeudraeth we will volunteer on the Ffestineog and Welsh Highland Railway with the infrastructure department. We will be sure to get hands on with some interesting tasks and see behind the scenes. There will be a chance to ride on the Ffestineog railway, we hope with a private train... One evening we will visit Spooners Pub in Porthmadog to enjoy a meal in the railway's own pub! Sunday 20th June We will return back towards Birmingham on 2I18 TfW 1205 departure along the Cambrian Coast, which arrives back into Birmingham New Street at 1630. Tickets There are limited spaces on this trip, places must be booked on eventbrite: Tickets include: - Accommodation for Wednesday evening until Sunday morning at the FFWHR hostel.
