YRP & RCEA (Railway Civil Engineer's Association) present their Christmas lecture: creating successful stations to meet the needs of the future.
Successful railway station developments have changed stations from functional, unsafe, and unpleasant experiences into places where the customers’ needs are put first.
On top of the need to regenerate stations, Covid-19 has set a new challenge, the dramatic drop off in commuter traffic and growth in leisure users has suddenly changed who is using stations, and when.
Additionally, as society changes, understanding the generations of the future will be key to the success of any transport hub, and retaining flexibility in design to adapt to changing customer patterns should become the norm.
Mike Luddy, the Commercial Development Director for HS2, discusses his experiences of station regeneration. To celebrate the holiday period, reception drinks will be held before the lecture.
