The YRP Heritage Engagement Initiative are pleased to announce a working visit to the Ruislip Lido Railway, volunteering to help the infrastructure department with a track renewal.

Located just 40 minutes from Central London, the Ruislip Lido Railway is Britain’s longest 12” gauge railway and has been operating since 1946. The railway is maintained and operated entirely by volunteers.

YRP will be helping to upgrade the mile long mainline, which is in the process of being double tracked. This experience will allow volunteers to get some hands-on understanding of basic railway engineering principles through learning track-laying skills and grant them the opportunity to engage in informal networking with other volunteers including senior individuals across the rail industry.

Cost

The cost is £1 which helps to subsidise taxis from Ruislip Metropolitan Line station to the railway.

Travel

The group will meet at Baker Street Station at 09:30.

Alternatively, you can make your own way to the railway and meet us at Willow Lawn station (closest to the car park) at 10:30.

PPE/what to bring

Please bring safety boots, a Hi-Viz vest/jacket, and lunch!

You will also need a contactless, Oyster, or Zone 1-6 travelcard to get to Ruislip from Baker Street.

Task specific PPE and training will be provided by Ruislip Lido Railway Volunteers.
