YRP London & South East Presents Ruislip Lido Railway Volunteering Day

For the second time in 2023, the YRP Heritage Engagement Initiative are pleased to announce a volunteering visit to the Ruislip Lido Railway, working with the permanent way department to maintain the railway’s mile long mainline.

Located just 40 minutes from Central London, the Ruislip Lido Railway is Britain’s longest 12” gauge railway and has been operating since 1946. The railway is maintained and operated entirely by volunteers.

YRP will be replacing life-expired timber sleepers with recycled plastic sleepers and repairing point components in the railway’s workshop. There will also be an opportunity to ride on the line. Light refreshments will be provided throughout the day

Cost
A £1 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your place at this event.

Travel
The group will meet at Baker Street Station (Metropolitan Line ticket hall) at 0930.

Alternatively, you can make your own way to the railway and meet us at Woody Bay station at 1030.

You will also need a contactless, Oyster, or Zone 1-6 travelcard to get to Ruislip Lido Railway from Baker Street.
