The YRP Heritage Engagement Initiative are pleased to announce a volunteering visit to the Ruislip Lido Railway, working with the permanent way department to maintain the railway’s mile long mainline.

Located just 40 minutes from Central London, the Ruislip Lido Railway is Britain’s longest 12” gauge railway and has been operating since 1946. The railway is maintained and operated entirely by volunteers.

YRP will be replacing life-expired timber sleepers with recycled plastic sleepers, helping to renew 200 metres of track. There may also be an opportunity to ride on the line. Light refreshments will be provided throughout the day.

Travel

The group will meet at Baker Street Station (Metropolitan Line ticket hall) at 0930.

Alternatively, you can make your own way to the railway and meet us at Woody Bay station at 1030.

PPE/what to bring.

If you have PPE, please bring safety boots, a Hi-Viz vest/jacket, and lunch! A limited amount of PPE is available for those who require it.

You will also need a contactless, Oyster, or Zone 1-6 travelcard to get to Ruislip Lido Railway from Baker Street.

Task specific training will be provided by Ruislip Lido Railway Volunteers.

Registration

Please complete the attached Google form to register. If selected by ballot, your place will be announced two weeks before the event. https://forms.gle/HwonoqyzMpkQBno2A
