The Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland Railways have tasked the YRP with assisting with the installation a new siding at Dduallt. So to rise to the challenge for the first time the YRP will be running two volunteering trips to the Ffestiniog and Welsh Highland
Railways.
Summer Trip 1 - Saturday 6th July to Wednesday 10th July
Summer Trip 2 - Wednesday 10th July to Sunday 14th July
Volunteering
3 days of each trip will be spent volunteering with the railway's infrastructure department. We will catch a works train up from the hostel to our worksite at Dduallt and undertake pway work installing a siding. No prior experience of pway work is required. Social Day at the Corris Railway On the Wednesday, both groups will visit the Corris Railway! This will be a relaxed day with this unique railway privately hired by the YRP with a chance to see behind the scenes.
Travel
The groups will travel out to the Ffestiniog Railway via the scenic Transport for Wales Cambrian Coast Line. The groups will meet around 10am on the first day of the trip at Birmingham New Street.
Accommodation
Trip 1 we will be staying in the railway’s hostel at Penrhyn Ffestiniog Station (included in trip fee).
Please note that Penrhyn is quite a historical building so is of a partially open plan, mixed dorm arrangement with bunk beds. If you have any concerns about this, please contact Matthew the organiser to discuss how we can best accommodate you.
Trip 2 we will be staying in the railway’s hostel at Minffordd, which has 4 person rooms which will be allocated by gender.
Cost There is no charge for this trip. However you will need to cover the cost independently for: - Food and drink for the trip (other than one evening meal).
- National Rail Tickets to Penrhyndeudraeth.
Do I need a Personal Track Safety qualification or prior experience to come on this trip?
No!
