YRP have been given access to Chetwynd Barracks, where 507 Specialist Team Royal Engineers (STRE) will be speaking about the work that the army railway unit does with the repair, construction, and warfare capability of railway infrastructure. The unit has done a lot of work in the UK, aswell as working on many rail related projects around the world. There will also be a presentation on how the rail industry is supporting military veterans. Agenda 2pm – Arrive at Chetwynd Barracks 2.15pm – Visit the road/rail tamper vehicle 2.30pm – Presentation about 507 STRE’s role within the rail industry - James Appleby – Member of 507 and Principal Engineer (C&B) – at Network Rail 3pm – Presentation from Britain’s Bravest Manufacturing Company / Royal British Legion - Steve Hammond (served in the Falklands War within the Welsh Guards) & Geoff Streetley (former Managing Director of Britians Bravest (RBL's Social Enterprise) 3.30pm – Q&A Session 4pm – Networking session with refreshments 5pm - Close Please note: As this is a MOD site, you must have valid ID to enter the site. Getting to the barracks: Train There are several train stations in which you will need to choose the best one based on where you’re travelling from. The nearest train stations are: - Attenborough (Local trains from Leicester, Lincoln, Birmingham, and Matlock)
- Beeston (EMR Intercity – Leicester, Northamptonshire, and London)
- Long Eaton (From Crewe, Derby and Sheffield)
NET (Nottingham Tram) The nearest Tram stop is Toton Lane. You can either walk for 20 minutes or take the bus 510 to the barracks. Bus Buses 510 and 536 go directly to the barracks from Toton Lane Tram Stop, Beeston Bus Station (NOT the train station) and Stapleford. If you want to use a more frequent bus, you can alight Indigo or Skylink Nottingham at Chilwell Retail Park. This involves a 15 minute walk up Swiney Way. - From Long Eaton Train Station, use the Skylink bus
- From Derby, Beeston and Nottingham, use the Indigo bus
