The YRP Heritage Railway Engagement initiative are pleased to announce another popular volunteering weekend to the Ffestiniog & Welsh Highland Railway in Snowdonia, North Wales! The weekend is a chance to get hands on volunteering on the railway with the infrastructure team. On the Saturday evening we will have a social meal in the railway's own pub. Accommodation We will be staying in the railway’s hostel at Penrhyn Ffestiniog Station (included in trip fee). Please note that this quite a historical building so is of a partially open plan, mixed dorm arrangement with bunk beds. If you have any concerns about this, please contact Matthew the organiser to discuss how we can best accommodate you. Travel The YRP will arrange for taxis to/from Llandudno Junction station. On the Friday night the taxi will depart Llandudno Junction at 20:30 and is intended to connect from 1D91 1702 London Euston direct train (Avanti West Coast) and 1D16 1708 from Birmingham International via Shrewsbury and Chester (TfW). On the Sunday we will be aiming for the taxi to Llandudno Junction to connect into 1K09 16:23 to Crewe via Chester (TfW). Onwards connections are available at Crewe for both London and the West Midlands. Alternatively, you are welcome to make your own way to Penryn by road. Do I need a Personal Track Safety qualification or prior experience to come on this trip? No!
Fitness Requirements We will be undertaking manual volunteering tasks outdoors which requires an appropriate level of fitness. You will need to be able to walk on uneven ground for at least 5km, use hand tools, lift objects, understand and follow safety instructions. We will be working outdoors on the side of a hill in all weathers which may include wind and rain. If you would like further guidance on this or to discus accommodating any medical requirements for the trip please reach out to an organiser. PPE and Kit List A full PPE and kit list will be provided before the trip, however there are some key items you will need to bring with you: - Safety Boots
