Young Rail Professionals (YRP) is delighted to continue its partnership with Primary Engineer, supporting the delivery of the Rail Programme, a hands-on initiative that brings real-world rail engineering into primary schools. This collaboration gives YRP members the opportunity to inspire pupils, share their own career journeys, and showcase the exciting possibilities within the rail industry. Volunteers will visit partnered schools to help pupils with their rail engineering projects, bringing classroom learning to life. Visits are flexible and arranged directly with each school, typically lasting between one and three hours. Those able to give a little more time can also support:
-
Teacher Training Days (around six hours, held in November or January) – join a local session where teachers learn to deliver the programme, and continue supporting their pupils afterwards.
-
Celebration Events (around three hours, in May) – take part in an inspiring showcase where pupils test their builds, compete, and present their projects to engineers.
Opportunities are available in Birmingham and London (Westminster), with five volunteer spaces needed in London. Places will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. This is a flexible, rewarding opportunity to make a real impact on young people’s STEM learning while promoting rail as a career of the future. Register your interest here! About Primary Engineer
