The Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ Young Engineers and Apprentices Railway Seminar (YEARS) returns this December, bringing together early-career professionals from across the industry for two days of learning, discussion and networking in York.

This year’s event celebrates Railway 200, marking 200 years since the birth of the railway. The 2025 theme, 'The Past, Present and Future of the UK Railway', looks at how the history of rail has shaped today’s network and the innovations driving its next chapter.

Attendees will take part in technical workshops, skills sessions and site visits, and hear directly from leading figures including:
Sarah Price, Head of Locomotion, National Rail Museum
Daniel Forbes, Senior Engineering Programme Manager, Network Rail
Matt Prosser, Asset Management Director, Angel Trains
Matthew Teller, Head of Systems Integration (ERTMS), Govia Thameslink Railway
Rebeka Sellick, Business Development Director, Cordel.ai and 2025/26 Chair, IMechE Railway Division

YEARS is designed for graduates, apprentices and those in the early stages of their careers. It’s a chance to explore the breadth of the rail industry, develop professional skills, and connect with peers who are shaping its future.

YRP members can book at the discounted IMechE member rate of £300 (non-members: £380).
