Fast Trackers 2019

Young Rail Professionals (YRP) were principle supporters of this year’s Fast Trackers, an outreach programme designed to inspire 16-19 year old students from areas with low uptake of further education to pursue a career in engineering.

This year over 300 young people from across England and Scotland took part in a three-day regional event comprising of a higher education visit, an employer visit and an engineering challenge.

Participants received an Industrial Cadets Silver Award, where 70 of the highest performing students progressed to the national final, a three-day residential in Birmingham across 2^nd to 4^th  July. Finalists earned an Industrial Cadets Gold Award and were also potentially rewarded with year in industry or work placements.

At the national final, YRP volunteers, Paul Burkitt-Gray and Akeem Karefa Smart delivered a workshop on the theme of managing cost and risk, which was well received by all those that participated.
