Since its creation in 2018 the Young Rail Tours (YRT) programme has delivered several outstanding development and networking tours for young professionals working within the UK Rail Industry. Though this year has created a number of challenges, the YRT
team currently led by Ben Vallely, have spent their time developing their capabilities and creating a strategy to enable them to deliver new and innovative tours as soon as possible.
A key development this year was YRT’s formal incorporation into YRP, with continued support from the Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE).
This move best places YRT to grow and deliver outstanding benefits to the industry.
YRT’s last tour in March 2020 to Japan was a huge success, taking 22 professionals on a once in a lifetime technical and cultural tour across key sites within Japan including; Tokyo, Kyoto, Himeji, Hiroshima and Miyajima, with a video of the tour now
available to view.
With the hope of lockdowns being lifted, and with vaccine rollouts improving the outlook worldwide regarding the pandemic, the team’s focus is now on the future, with new and ambitious tours being planned.
