Great Central Railway Santa Express – Volunteers needed and a chance to be onboard!

YRP need volunteers for our very own Santa Express steam train that will run on December 2^nd for children living in the care system as well as those with special needs. We have our very own train booked that will take the children and their carers from Loughborough Central to Leicester North and back again with Santa and his elves onboard giving presents during the journey.

What roles are available?

There are a variety of roles you can do on the day. These will mostly be at Loughborough Central station, but some will be onboard for those who win YRP tickets. These include:

• Checking-in children and carers as they arrive. A list will be provided.
• Handing out YRP merch.
• Assisting passengers and the media.
• Showing the children round the station as well as onboard the train.
• Help those with additional needs sit in the right section of the train. (i.e., no photo section and the quiet carriage)
• Talk to the children about the history of the railway and how a steam train works.
• Taking photos and videos for the YRP channel
• Show children to the signal box (if were allowed to).
• Talk to the children and parents about how they find using public transport.
• Covering for ‘no-shows’ onboard the train.
• Various safety duties onboard the train (such as keeping children away from the doors!)

Can I be onboard?

We have a small number of free tickets that are reserved for any YRP member that can get to Loughborough Central for 8.30am on Saturday December 2^nd. If you are interested in volunteering, there will be the chance of winning one of these tickets in which a ballot will be done if interest is higher than demand.
