Help shape YRP's contribution to the Rail Youth Promise
Young Rail Professionals is inviting members and young people connected to our corporate members to share their views on the Rail Youth Promise.
Due to be launched in Parliament later this summer, the Rail Youth Promise is a new cross-industry commitment designed to increase the number of young people entering and progressing within the rail workforce. It aims to help organisations work together to remove barriers, improve access to opportunities and support young people to build long-term careers across the industry.
The Rail Youth Promise is built around five themes:
Inspire - encouraging more young people to see rail as a rewarding career choice
Hire - creating fair and accessible entry routes into the industry
Learn - providing the skills, support and environment needed to thrive
Grow - helping young people progress, stay and succeed in long-term rail careers
Connect - reducing barriers and improving access to opportunities
Over the past year, YRP has contributed to discussions around the Rail Youth Promise through industry roundtables and wider engagement. As the initiative moves towards launch, we want to ensure the experiences and priorities of young people and early-career professionals are properly represented.
If the industry wants to attract, develop and retain young talent, the voices of those entering rail, building careers and experiencing barriers first-hand need to be part of the conversation.
Through this survey, we want to better understand:
- the biggest barriers facing young people entering rail
- access to opportunities, work experience and apprenticeships
- what support matters most once someone joins the industry
- what helps young people progress and stay in rail careers
- what employers and organisations should prioritise next
- how the Rail Youth Promise can deliver meaningful change
Whether you are already working in rail, starting out, studying or considering a future career in the industry, we want to hear from you.
The survey takes around 5 minutes to complete and responses will be reviewed anonymously.
Your answers will help inform YRP's contribution to ongoing discussions around the Rail Youth Promise, including conversations with senior rail leaders and policymakers ahead of the parliamentary launch.
This is an opportunity to help ensure the experiences and priorities of young people are heard as the industry considers what meaningful support should look like in practice.
