YRP East Midlands volunteers supported preparation works for the IMechE Railway Challenge at Stapleford Miniature Railway.
On Saturday 23rd May, members of the Young Rail Professionals (YRP) East Midlands Committee organised a successful volunteering day at Stapleford Miniature Railway, supporting preparation works for the IMechE Railway Challenge. The day brought together a fantastic group of volunteers from across the UK, with participants travelling from different regions to take part. We were also pleased to be joined by students from Poznań University (Poland), reflecting the strong international engagement and collaborative spirit that the Railway Challenge continues to inspire.
Despite the very warm weather, volunteers worked incredibly hard throughout the day, carrying out physically demanding tasks such as shovelling and packing ballast under the sun, as well as supporting general track maintenance activities. The effort and determination shown by everyone on the day were truly commendable, with volunteers contributing significant progress to the ongoing site preparations.
Beyond the engineering work, the day also offered a great opportunity to connect with fellow professionals and students, share knowledge, and build lasting relationships within the rail community. We now look ahead to the IMechE Railway Challenge, taking place from 26th-28th June and we are excited to see the results of all the hard work that has gone into preparing the site.
We would like to wish all participating teams the very best of luck, including the team from Poznań University, and we look forward to seeing you all in action during the competition.
