Young Rail Professionals Trip to the Netherlands – 2026 Ballot Now Open
Young Rail Trips are YRP’s international rail study visit programme, giving early-career professionals access to rail systems across Europe and beyond. The next trip will take place from Tuesday 2nd June to Saturday 6th June. Over five days, delegates will spend time inside the Netherlands rail network, one of the most intensively operated in Europe, with a programme of site visits, operator sessions, and time with the teams delivering and operating the railway.
Delegates will spend time with Strukton and Railcenter, followed by sessions with Laser Precision Solutions and the Amsterdam regional transport authority. The week also includes a visit to the Utrecht tram network and dedicated time with ProRail. The programme is designed to give a broad but detailed view of how the railway is delivered and operated in the Netherlands.
The Dutch network is known for its high-frequency services, coordinated approach between infrastructure and operations, and strong focus on the passenger experience. It provides a useful comparison point with the UK rail industry, particularly in how dense timetables are delivered and how different parts of the system work together in practice.
Young Rail Trips are designed to give early-career professionals access beyond what is typically available day-to-day. Alongside the technical programme, delegates spend the week with a group of peers from across the rail industry, supporting the development of professional relationships as well as technical insight.
Travel from London via Eurostar and accommodation are included. There are 25 places available, allocated through a ballot.
Enter the ballot here! The ballot will close at 23:59 on Friday 24 April.
Young Rail Trips form part of YRP’s wider programme of rail industry events, including technical talks, site visits, and professional development activity across the UK and Ireland.
