Young Railway Professionals is born
Leaders of young members’ committees of IRO (Rob Mullen), IRSE (Martin Fenner), IET (Martyn Chymera) and IMechE (Paul Cooper) come together to provide a forum for young professionals’ organisations with the support of Rail Engineers
Forum. Rob Mullen is appointed as Chair.

Inaugural Annual Dinner launches YRP

YRP launches with a Black Tie Dinner at IMechE Birdcage Walk attracting 125 people with guest speaker Chris Mole MP, Minister for Railways.

First summer BBQ
YRP hold a BBQ at London Underground's 55 Broadway HQ as their first summer networking event.

The YRP Committee meets monthly at ATOC's offices throughout the year with PWI joining the group. YRP's constitution is drawn up in December 2010 and agreed amongst the committee members representing different professional institutions

Annual Dinner doubles in size
3 February 2011
The dinner grows to 280 attendees from all disciplines of the industry. Guest speaker, Dr. Pete Waterman OBE, gives a lively speech and speaking of his own railway career, the importance of supporting young people into the industry
by training them in apprentice schemes which gives them the experience and skills they require and not just a qualification. Finishing by speaking passionately of his support for HS2. The live band after dinner, entices quite
a few people onto the dance floor.

YRP head to the river for their second summer BBQ on board a Thames River cruise.

More individuals join the committee with backgrounds in journalism, PR, comms, and project management. Paul Cooper is appointed as Chair. YRP moves its committee meetings to Dentons.

YRP mentors students at iRail
15 March 2012
10 ambassadors from YRP take part in iRail 2012, an event founded by the Derby Rail Engineering Society with the aim of attracting young people to a career in the rail industry.

3rd dinner held with Mark Hopwood, MD of First Great Western, as keynote speaker attracting 370 guests. Supported by generous donations of raffle prizes, the event raises funds for the organisation’s partner charity, Railway
Children.

YRP hosts a drinks reception for young professionals at InnoTrans in Berlin.

YRP's first development event
Hosted at Dentons, YRP holds its first evening seminar on the 'Legal Structure of Rail'.

Website launched
New website is launched, funded by NSARE, and membership is reset to zero.

Martyn Chymera is appointed Chair and YRP membership surpasses 600 young professionals. Stephen Head leads a strategic review of the objectives and organisation of YRP, forming new delivery sub-committees and laying the foundations
for a regional structure.

Inaugural award for a Young Railway Professional of the Year
14 March 2013
Fourth dinner attracts 400 guests, with Sir Terry Morgan CBE, Chairman of Crossrail, as keynote speaker.
Lucy McAuliffe, station manager for Network Rail and assessor for their Track & Train graduate programme, is awarded YRP's first Young Railway Professional of the Year award.

YRP holds second development event, welcoming Richard Brown CBE Eurostar Chairman on Franchising to present followed by Q&A and networking.

7 YRP members visit the Netherlands hosted by Jonge Veranderaars. YRP re-pays the favour hosting their dutch colleagues later in the year.

YRP rebrands and defines mission
YRP rebrands as Young Rail Professionals with a new logo and mission: To PROMOTE the rail industry as a great place to work, INSPIRE the next generation of railway talent and DEVELOP young people to reach their potential.

Membership reaches 1,130. Adam Stead is appointed Chair. Strategy for forming regional committees is launched. Young Rail Professionals Limited is incorporated as a not-for-profit company. YRP starts to become recognised
by industry as a leader within the industry promotion landscape for rail, including joining NSAR's Industry Promotion Steering Group and High Speed Rail Industry Leaders

With membership of over 2200, Stephen Head is appointed Chair. YRP's constitution rewritten to incorporate regional structure. A matrix organisation within committee is implemented, allowing the seven regional committees to have autonomy
but also providing a national overview for each area of the operations.

Annual Dinner held in York

Recognising YRP’s fast-growing membership outside the South East region, the Annual Dinner was held outside London for the first time to solidify YRP’s status as a truly national organisation. Surrounded by 300 years of history at
the National Railway Museum in York, Sir Peter Hendy CBE, chairman of Network Rail, provided the night's keynote address.

Inaugural Rail Week
27 June - 3 July 2016
A pioneering pan-industry initiative brought the rail industry in all its guises closer to schools, teachers, career advisers and students. Rail Week celebrates the diverse and rewarding career opportunities available across the rail
sector. First Rail Week delivered 157 events across the country involving over 70 organisations.

YRP establishes Advisory Board to strengthen governance of YRP Limited and to help provide continuity. YRP holds its first leadership conference.

YRP’s 8th Annual dinner held in London with Michelle Dix, Managing Director of Crossrail 2, as speaker. Apprentice of the Year and Mentor of the Year join the YRP Awards Honour Roll for the first time.

Into Rail brand launched
YRP launches Into Rail bringing together all of the YRP Ambassador intiatives. Into Rail showcases fun and interactive learning opportunities to educate young people on the fantastic prospects that the rail industry can provide for
them in their future careers. The programme aims to bring a positive and insightful outreach presence to schools, colleges, universities and the general public.

YRP launches its Heritage Rail Strategy with a working weekend away for YRP members to experience track work first hand. YRP host German rail professionals on a 3 day tour of the UK. Membership reaches 5500.

Young Rail Tours takes 21 delegates to Japan. Tour covers several cities across Japan, including Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Osaka.

COVID-19 puts the world into lockdown and YRP moves its networking and developing activities online. Within 6 months of launching first webinar over 1500 attendees reached with YRP events. Unfortunately YRP's Annual Dinner is postponed.
YRP uses its social media channels to promote online activities for children at home.

Rail Week online

The railway is brought to kitchens and living rooms across the UK by placing fresh emphasis on technology with virtual depot tours, webinars, downloadable activities, engineering insights, Q&As, games and educational videos.
