Young Rail Professionals exists to promote the rail industry as a great place to work, inspire the next generation of railway talent and support young people to reach their full potential. Railweek represents the pinnacle of YRP activity each year — a nationwide programme of events with a strong focus on engaging young people and showcasing the opportunities within rail.
Railweek gives participants the chance to see first-hand what the rail industry has to offer, helping them consider whether a career in rail could be right for them, while contributing to addressing the industry's future skills needs.
First launched in summer 2016, Railweek began as a pioneering pan-industry initiative, bringing the railway closer to schools, colleges and universities. Its success has seen it grow into YRP's flagship annual event — celebrating and promoting the diverse and rewarding careers available across the sector.
While nationally supported, Railweek programmes are designed and delivered by dedicated regional committees across the country. Together, they create an impressive calendar of activities for young people to get involved in — from technical sessions and careers insights to exclusive access to depots and facilities that are not usually open to the public, as well as networking and social events with industry professionals.
Railweek 2026 saw over 20 public events delivered nationwide, alongside extensive outreach across schools, colleges and universities.
